6 Ways to Get In a Workout in Columbia SC

Getting in a workout while traveling can be tough, but we’ve got some tips for staying fit during your trip to Columbia SC.
Run up the South Carolina State House steps
Make your way to the South Carolina State House, then take a jog around the beautiful grounds. You can kick your workout into high gear by running up the steps of the State House -- FYI, there’s a lot of them. You’ll feel the burn, for sure, and your reward is one of the best views in Columbia (and the chance to have your own Rocky moment at the top).

Sweat it out at Masala on Main
Masala on Main is a yoga sanctuary and boutique on Main Street offering hot vinyasa, restorative yoga and meditation classes. With drop-in rates, you won’t have any problem stopping by for a moment of zen. Afterwards, you can cool off on Main Street at spots like Michael’s on Main, Good Life Cafe, Main Street Public House, Sweet Cream or Nickelodeon Theatre. Now, that deserves a “namaste.”
Bike or run a lake (or two)
If you’re staying at the Hampton Inn Columbia-I-26/Harbison Blvd., you can request a bike and helmet for a ride around Harbison Lake for a pleasant view. Take in the sights at the region’s largest body of water, Lake Murray, and walk across the dam walkway, where runners and walkers flock every day for a 1.7-mile stretch with some spectacular views.

Stretch at a brewery
More yoga, anyone? Check out one of Columbia’s breweries for some yoga and beer. Conquest Brewing, Columbia’s first official brewery, holds Balanced Brews on Sundays with Yoga with Jean -- just $15 gets you a class and beer. In the spring and summer, River Rat Brewery features a yoga class every other Sunday (check their Facebook for latest details) which you can follow up with a Beermosa (which is exactly what it sounds like!).

Chase the sunset along the river
Columbia is lucky to be home to three rivers, the Saluda, the Congaree and the Broad, which provide ample opportunities for scenic running. When staying in Irmo, try the Greenway Trail at Saluda Shoals Park, a paved trail that runs along the lower Saluda River. Right downtown, Columbia Riverfront Park has ample parking for quick access to a three-mile paved trail. Just across the river from Columbia’s city center, the connected Cayce and West Columbia Riverwalk Parks offer some of the best views of the Congaree River and the Columbia skyline.
