There’s no question about it, our local businesses are the heart of our community, and now more than ever they need our support. If you want to help, but you don’t know where to start, we have several suggestions for how we can be the biggest cheerleaders of local businesses.

Spread the Love

One of the most impactful things you can do is to simply tell your favorite biz why you love them! Head over to Yelp, Google or Facebook and leave them a shining, 5-star review.  Better yet, next time you’re at your Columbia SC spot, tell them yourself. Was the customer service exceptional? Share your positive experience with the supervisor. Order a meal that had you licking your plate by the end? Send your compliments to the chef. Kind words go a long way (face-to-face and virtually).

Pay it Forward

If you’re able to do so, make a donation to a relief fund or pay it forward. You’ll find many local businesses are rallying to support those in industries that are struggling the most during this time. Donate to Curiosity Coffee Bar’s tab for out-of-work service industry workers, medical staff and artists so they can enjoy a sweet treat on the house. Or share the gift of a good slice by buying a pizza for a hospitality worker at Il Focolare Pizzeria

Jam Out

Get in the rhythm of giving by supporting Columbia SC’s talented musicians and artists. Follow them on social media, buy their work, or stream their music. If you’re having an at-home concert with a live-stream event and you’re feeling generous, send a virtual tip through ColaJazz’s online Tip Jar. Your support and generosity will help musicians/artists get back to sharing their passion with the world sooner.

Order Up

When in doubt, order carry out. Support your local hospitality workers by ordering from your favorite restaurant. Not sure where to start? Check out our recent blog post to find your perfect match. If you want to lend a hand, but maybe you’re not hungry at the moment, consider purchasing a gift card to use for later, or become a superfan by buying some merch.
