It’s time for another Famously Hot New Year! You can ring in 2014 with 25,000 new friends at this free concert featuring Kool and the Gang (“Celebration!”), ZZ Ward and Columbia, SC’s own Weaving the Fate. The New Year’s Eve bash also features the requisite midnight countdown and fireworks (shooting off behind the South Carolina State House no less). Register for your free ticket here or grab a VIP ticket to the Absolut Crescent Lounge ($125 each).
If you want a New Year’s Eve party for the kiddos, EdVenture Children’s Museum holds its annual New Year’s Eve at Noon (free with admission) complete with a DJ and a ball drop. Looking for more New Years events? The Free Times has a rundown of Columbia, SC’s many NYE parties at surrounding restaurants, bars and more.
After all of the holiday hustle and bustle, maybe it’s time for a movie and popcorn. The Nickelodeon is currently showing Nebraska, a contemporary black-and-white film starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte as a father-son duo on a road trip through America’s heartland. You can see this critically-acclaimed film while sipping a glass of wine or a pint of regional brews at South Carolina’s only independent movie theater.
Whether you’re a Gamecocks fan or just a football fan in general, the Capital One Bowl will be a game to watch as the University of South Carolina Gamecocks take on the Wisconsin Badgers. Browse our list of sports bars and find your spot to experience Gamecock Country’s famous enthusiasm for the home team.
