We're lucky in Columbia, SC. It stays warm enough almost year-round to spend your weekends outdoors at a food festival, art festival or flower festival. This weekend is jam-packed with famously hot fall events that will send September out with a bang.

2012 Irmo Okra Strut at the Irmo Town Park
Come out to Irmo for the annual Okra Strut for food, fun, a parade and - of course - okra! Special performances by Rob Crosby and Mustang Sally. Free Admission.
6:00pm - 11:00pm

Rhythm on the River at the West Columbia Riverwalk 
Friday's concert features Trent Jeffcoat with opening act Erin Thomas. The Riverwalk Amphitheater is located at the corner of Meeting Street and Alexander Road, next to the Gervais Street Bridge. Free admission. 
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm



ZOOfari at Riverbanks Zoo & Garden
Come out to the Wildest fundraiser in town! Take an evening stroll through the Zoo, catch a glimpse of some wild creatures, savor tasty cuisine and cool cocktails, and bid on one-of-a-kind silent and live auction items. Proceeds from the event will go to preserving Riverbanks Zoo. $70 at gate.

Midlands Fall Plant & Flower Festival
Find all your fall favorites at the SC State Farmer's Market this weekend at the Midlands Fall Plant & Flower Festival. This annual signature Columbia event features locally grown and seasonal produce as well as plants and flowers, lawn decorations for the gardening enthusiast, and locally produced Specialty Foods. "Cheer From Chawton" at Drayton Hall Theatre
The South Carolina Shakespeare Company presents "Cheer from Chawton," a Jane Austen theatrical. The play is a theatrical adaptation from excerpts of Austen's work, to tell the story of the life of the renown author. Reserve your seats. $10 adults, $5 for children.

Forbidden Broadway at the Village Square Theatre 
A hilarious and entertaining tribute to some of the classic broadway legends, this off-broadway musical puts a satirical spin on some of our beloved theater stars. Tickets, $15 - $19. Purchase tickets
7:30 pm 

Columbia Alternacirque at Art Bar
Every fourth Friday, Alternacirque, Columbia's funky alternative circus arts performance company, performs at the eclectic downtown Art Bar. The two performances are free to attend with no cover charge.
First show at 9:30, second at 10:30 pm 


Rosewood Arts Festival
The Rosewood Arts Festival will be at Rockaway's. There will be live art, art sale, children's crafts, readings from the SC Shakespeare Company and performances from Alternacirque. View the whole schedule of events. Free admission.

5th Annual Italian Festival & Bocce Tournament
Columbia's fifth annual Italian Festival & Bocce tournament takes over downtown Columbia and Main Street this Saturday. The Italian Fresh Market features homemade breads, olive oils and pastas. There will be grape-stomping, mask making, a giant bubble show and even the chance to take your picture in a gondola! Free admission.

Viva La Vista!
Bring your friends and family to the Vista this Saturday for a day-long food & entertainment festival! Viva features over 20 Vista restaurant vendors, 18 bands with live music on 3 stages and various family-friendly activities along Gervais street and its contingents.
