Hi, I’m James Agens, business owner, student and community organizer. Columbia is a place where I’m making my dreams come true, and in between all of that, I’m still finding a little time to shake it up.

Shop Small: Within minutes of stepping onto Main Street on a Saturday morning, you’ll see why Soda City Market was voted the #1 Farmers Market by USA Today. This weekly market brings together the makers and growers from around South Carolina. My business, Terra Cotta Nursery sells potted plants and I’d love to see you stop by.

Insider TIP: I always grab an iced coffee from Indah to help fuel me through the morning rush.

WITH PRIDE: Shop South Carolina’s only queer, independent bookstore, Queer Haven Books. Located in the historic Arcade Mall, you'll find books for every age along with games, gifts, and stickers, not to mention warm and welcoming community.

Insider TIP: Check out @queerhavenbooks on Instagram for their events.

LOCAL FAVORITE: If you’re looking for a solid local restaurant, look no further than Backstreets Grill. Sports fans gather on the patio during big games, families stopping in for Sunday lunch, and friends piled into a booth on any given night. From the buffalo shrimp appetizer to the cajun chicken pasta, you’ll see why this is a local favorite.

LET'S DANCE: The Woody has a long history of late nights in downtown Columbia. Grab your crew and get to dancing at this Main Street joint. Live musicians and DJs keep energy high while the bar keeps the drinks flowing.

Insider TIP: If you’re not one for late nights, The Woody also serves brunch!

Columbia is a city full of color, from the lights on the dance floor to the booths at Soda City market. Come see it for yourself.
