Columbia, S.C. - (March 22, 2011) - The 2011 Downtown Columbia Triathlon will be held at the Blatt PE Center on the campus of the University of South Carolina this Sunday, March 27, 2011, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Over 400 men and women, from ages 12 to 68, will participate in the sprint triathlon, the second event of the Go Tri Sports South Carolina Triathlon Series.

The sprint triathlon will feature a 500-meter swim at the Blatt PE Center, 10-mile bike course on the streets of downtown Columbia and 5K run touring downtown streets from Henderson Street at Blatt PE Center to Senate Street in the Vista. Columbia city police will staff more than 30 officers to keep the course safe and mostly closed to traffic as participants bike and run downtown streets. The course will finish at the intramural fields adjacent to the Blatt PE Center.

Though participant registration is closed, media and spectators are invited to attend. Bates parking lot off Whaley Street, just a quarter mile from Blatt PE Center, will be open for triathlon parking.
