North Columbia & Bull Street

Considered by many to be Columbia's up-and-coming entertainment district, North Columbia & BullStreet is located between Elmwood and I-20, cozied up next to the Main Street district. This five mile stretch is home to an evolving mix of residential, retail, and commercial space. Of particular note, the BullStreet District - a 20-year redevelopment project that has given birth to a minor league ballpark, a REI Co-Op, a cult favorite, Starbucks, and a church, with more to come. Just down the street, young creatives flock to Indah Coffee to collaborate over nitro cold brew coffee before getting a beard trim at the attached Circa Barbershop. Locals order birthday cakes at Main Street Bakery.

Indah Coffee: What started as a coffee roaster at Soda City Market in 2010 has grown to become a pillar of North Main’s revitalization. Opened in 2017 in a 1940s era building, it’s now the headquarters of the popular roaster, as well as a 60-seat cafe. Knowledgeable staff are happy to speak to the origins of the beans used to make your drink, from espresso drinks to cold brew coffee. “Indah,” which means “beautiful” in Indonesian, extends to the interior of the building, where the bones of 40s architecture meet modern design. It’s the perfect place to get lost over a latte, catch up on emails, and people watch as the light streams in through the large windows.

Circa Barbershop: Located in the same building as Indah Coffee, Circa Barbershop reflects the trend of modern barbershops going decidedly old school. Floor to ceiling windows showcase barbers in action, as they work on classic cuts and beard trims. No time for a cut? Check out their beard oil and thicket pomade to keep you looking fresh.

The War Mouth: Located in a former auto repair garage, The War Mouth offers a modern spin on Carolina classics. From chicken bog made with Anson Mills Carolina Gold Rice to braised pork shoulder, here you’ll find hearty meats and locally sourced vegetables. You’ll want to try the appetizers, like mustard fried venison or the deviled eggs, and table sides, like greens with smoked peppers and apple cider. Bonus points for impressing your friends by knowing the meaning behind “The War Mouth.”

Segra Park: Home to the Columbia Fireflies and Ballpark Digest's Minor League Ballpark of the Decade, a minor league baseball team and affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, Segra Park is North Main’s hub of sports and entertainment. It has become an anchor in the evolving BullStreet District, transforming the historic S.C. State Hospital site. Head to a game on a Thursday night for drink specials.

A Peace Of Soul Vegan Kitchen: Needing a break from all the barbecue you’re eating on your trip? Head to A Peace of Soul, which has been serving up vegetarian food for more than a decade. Adorned with textiles and decor from West Africa, Peace of Soul offers up a comfy setting to enjoy a salad or a smoothie. Check out the veggie plates that offer up a different take on items like lentils, collards, and cabbage. You'll be feeling healthier in no time.

Main Street Bakery: Known for their decadent wedding and birthday cakes, Main Street Bakery makes every occasion, including lunch, a special one. Order the made-in-house chicken salad sandwich, or hot dogs if you have the kids in tow. But save room for a slice of cake - with more than a dozen on the menu, you’ll have plenty to choose from. Think - German Chocolate, Red Velvet, and Sweet Potato Pound Cake. So much for the whole healthy thing.
