Dynamic Variation:

Columbia SC Outdoor Recreation

Columbia SC lies at the confluence of the Saluda and Broad Rivers, which merge right in town to form the Congaree. The region is flush with parks and opportunities for outdoor adventures. And with so many trails, gardens and Lake Murray nearby, it doesn’t take long to get from the middle of town to what seems like the middle of nowhere. Escape the bustling city and get lost in your thoughts amidst fresh air, cool waters and old growth hardwood forest in next to no time flat.

Rivers

Trails

The Three Rivers Greenway is a 15.5 miles (and growing) trail system along the Columbia's three rivers. These ADA accessible and lighted paths are a cool escape from the bustling city, while only being steps away from the action. With multiple entry points, there's always a convenient spot to stop in for walkers and cyclists. Riverfront Park runs along the Broad River and Columbia Canal. The Saluda Riverwalk features boardwalks that run along rushing rapids. When you want to go from city to nature in no time at all, The West Columbia Riverwalk Park and Amphitheater is just the spot. Along these trails there are bathrooms, emergency boxes and plenty of parking.

Kayaking and Tubing

Make a splash by taking a canoe, kayak or tube down the river. If you already have the gear, there are plenty of places to put in and take out on your own. Outfitters across the region also provide shuttles and equipment rentals. Palmetto Outdoors is conveniently set up at the West Columbia Riverwalk Park and Amphitheater to shuttle kayakers and tubers to the lower Saluda River for a 2-4 hour adventure down the river. Navigate Class II rapids before enjoying a leisurely float down to the Gervais Street Bridge.

Things to Do Along Columbia Rivers

Beyond serving as an excellent spot for outdoor recreation, the Columbia rivers are a beautiful backdrop to everyday live in the capital city. Enjoy a cold German-style beer at Columbia's only riverfront brewery Bierkeller. Keep an eye out for events at the West Columbia Amphitheater like the Rhythm on the River Concert Series.
