Columbia, SC - (July 15, 2011) -
The Columbia Regional Sports Council is pleased to announce being named the host city for the 2012 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) South Regional Playoffs. Games will be held February 17-18, 2012 at the Plex Indoor Sports & Ice Arena in Irmo, SC, located at 1019 Broad Stone Road.

The South Regional Playoffs will consist of eight top collegiate hockey teams from the southeastern United States as selected by regional rankings to compete for the ACHA National Championship. The playoffs are played over two days with four games played each day. A schedule of events along with the teams who will be competing will be announced at a later date.

About the ACHA:
The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) began as a men's collegiate hockey league in 1991, and quickly grew to a league of over 150 teams in three men's divisions. The Women's Division 2 was added in 2006, and the ACHA currently boasts five divisions with over 375 teams from across the nation. The purpose of the ACHA is to support quality, unity and regulation of intercollegiate hockey programs nationwide. In order to do this, the ACHA has developed organization By-Laws and a Policies and Procedures Manual to provide the policy foundation for the organization as it works to fulfill its purpose. These documents are reviewed yearly at the ACHA's annual meeting.The American Collegiate Hockey Association is a chartered non-profit corporation. It is classified as a 501(c) (3) organization with the Internal Revenue Service.

About Columbia Regional Sports Council:
The mission of the Columbia Regional Sports Council is to strengthen the area's economy by marketing and selling the Columbia, SC region (City of Columbia, Lexington County, Richland County) as a premier destination for sporting events, partnering with local sports organizations to grow and develop existing events, and by recruiting new events which provide an economic benefit to the region by generating room nights, food and beverage sales, and associated tax revenues.
