We’ve all been there. You’re so busy having the time of your life exploring all the fun things to do in Columbia SC that you’ve completely lost track of time. Suddenly it’s late and your stomach is growling. Well don’t worry, because we have you covered. Skip the drive thru and select from these late night spots instead.
Best Bar Bites
We take our bar food very seriously in Columbia SC. Because we know that your pint of beer or craft cocktail deserves a quality companion.
Descend below Main Street and you’ll encounter a cozy enclave called The Whig. The craft beer list is always on point and the food options cover lighter options like butterbean hummus and an addictive feta pesto dip to the truly indulgent, like chipotle pimento cheese fries, gouda mac and cheese and the Whig Burger complete with smoked gouda, beef gravy, bacon and sriracha aioli. Are you drooling yet?
Show you’re savvy to the ins and outs of Columbia and pop into Bar None in Five Points every other Tuesday for their famous smoked wing night. Not in town on a Tuesday? No problem – the breaded shrooms and jalapeno poppers are crowd favorites that satisfy those late night fried food cravings.
Next up is Nightcaps on Devine Street. Menu staples include eggrolls, steak and bacon barbeque pinwheels and some of the most beloved mozzarella sticks in town, among a bevy of other options. While you wait for your food to arrive, the locals will tell you that sipping on one of their White Russians is the way to go.
Settle in at a table or a booth at one of these eateries around town and stay a while.
Bourbon on Main Street is cookin’ up some serious Cajun-Creole eats. Let the dinner rush die down and come in on the later side for all the gumbo, etouffee, crispy boudin balls, jambalaya egg rolls and creole pimento cheese your heart desires.
Home Team BBQ might be new in town, but they get it. Having opened in Five Points, they understand that staying open until 2 a.m. every night is important. Get your fill from a limited menu until 1 a.m., then wash it all down with a signature Game Changer, of course.
Let’s be real. Is there honestly anything better than a big, melty, cheesy slice of pizza in the middle of the night? We didn’t think so. Get you a NY-style slice at Nicky’s Pizzeria in Five Points and thank us later.
The War Mouth in the North Main (NOMA) District has a special late night menu beginning at 9:30 p.m., offering snack items like a hot dog or a turkey leg to keep you fueled for a few hours while you sit and sip on a craft beer or cocktail creation.
For those nights when the big game is running into OT or extra innings and you’re too devoted to leave, Carolina Ale House is there for you. Keep those Carolina Nachos, fried pickles and sliders coming way into the wee hours of the night.
Dig into some wings any way you want them at Wild Wing Café. Traditional, boneless, seasoned or sauced in spicy, sweet or bold flavors. Mix and match and then throw in some wing chips for good measure.
If you don’t quite know what you want to eat, World of Beer in the Vista is there to offer everything from traditional bar food like wings, loaded tater tots and the largest German Pretzel you’ll ever see to unexpected dishes like Bibimbap, Pork Schnitzel and salmon with a sweet IPA glaze.
When it’s lighter fare that’s still satisfying that you seek, look no further than Pita Pit. Soft pita pockets are filled to bursting with proteins and veggies that are sure to stave off your hunger. The Falafel, Thai Chicken and Steak Fajita are sounding pretty good to us right about now.
Your Order Is On Its Way
And sometimes convenience is king.
Order up a hearty sub from campus favorite, Beezers Gourmet Sandwich Shop. Might we recommend their signature sandwich, the Godfather? Piled high with ham, capicola, salami and provolone cheese, it’s no wonder it’s earned a name that invokes such respect. Or, the Chicken Bacon Club is served hot and made all the better with a side of ranch.
I mean, anywhere that delivers a Mac & Cheese, Baked Potato, Chicken Teriyaki or something called the “Meatnormous” calzone to you at just about any hour of the night is okay in our book. Enter Eddie’s Calzones, fulfilling all of our wildest delivery dreams. And don’t worry, they have veggie options too.
If it’s something sweet you’re craving, then there’s nothing that beats a nice, warm box loaded with assorted Insomnia Cookies that are just a simple online order away. Sweet dreams, indeed.
