University towns are powered by coffee and our coffee shops have always been a staple among the student set, but they aren’t the only ones enjoying a caffeine boost. Business folks, legislators, artsy types, students, and families all populate the various shops around town, coexisting and coworking together on their laptops, enjoying intellectual discussions, or just a fresh cup of joe.
To get that relaxed but motivated college student vibe, the eclectic coffee shops closest to campus are the place to be. Cool Beans is visible from the bottom of the historic Horseshoe on campus and is a great place to enjoy a cup to go. A block farther on Main, you can find Immaculate Consumption, another historic student favorite for studying, sandwiches, and a big cup of java.
Drip Coffee is another favorite, with two locations that have two different sets of clientele that reflect the community that it surrounds. At the nearby Silver Spoon Bake Shop, specialty coffees pair well with sweet or savory biscuits in this quaint neighborhood bakery.
Newcomers to the downtown coffee scene include Curiosity Coffee Bar, Blue Flour Bakery, and Indah Coffee, which roasts their own beans in-house at their hip Sumter Street location.
