Columbia SC Coffee Shops

University towns are powered by coffee and our coffee shops have always been a staple among the student set, but they aren’t the only ones enjoying a caffeine boost. Business folks, legislators, artsy types, students, and families all populate the various shops around town, coexisting and co-working together on their laptops, enjoying intellectual discussions, or just a fresh cup of joe.

To get that relaxed but motivated college student vibe, the eclectic coffee shops closest to campus on South Main are the place to be. Cool Beans is visible from the bottom of the historic Horseshoe on campus and is a great place to enjoy a cup to go. A block farther on the same part of Main Street, you can find Immaculate Consumption, another historic student favorite for studying, sandwiches, and a big cup of java.

In the up-and-coming district of North Main (NOMA), you can find unique flavors and add-ins at Curiosity Coffee Bar like CBD and marshmallow fluff. Or, hit Indah Coffee, which roasts their own beans in-house and often hosts live music in the evenings.

In the heart of the Main Street district you'll find Drip Coffee, another local mainstay that has a second location in Five Points. Right up from Five Points in the Devine Street district is Silver Spoon Bake Shop and Piecewise Coffee Co's newest location, serving up specialty coffees that pair well with sweet and savory treats.

Within walking distance of Main Street is Columbia's Vista district. In addition to your Starbucks, you can get local coffee or tea from Sweetwaters, where you'll often find college students studying up at all hours of the day. Head across the river to grab your coffee from Cayce's hip and peaceful Piecewise Coffee Co. or indulge in West Columbia with a Strawberry Nutella Latte from The Hideout.
