Dog Friendly

Columbia residents love their four legged friends, and especially in a city that’s ready to show both humans and dogs tons of fun ways to spend time together. Start on a Saturday by leashing up before the sun fully descends into the sky and head down to Soda City Market for breakfast and browsing the variety of vendors, plus Mast General Store, which also is cool with canine visits. Make your way down Main towards the State House for a lazy mid-morning stroll to explore the historic monuments, before hopping over to the Horseshoe for a little off leash time and Frisbee catching, plus some well-deserved time laying in the grass under the majestic oaks. Trot off or drive over to Devine Street depending on how many miles you want to log, and enjoy lunch at one of the many low-key restaurants with outdoor seating.

To stay cool in the afternoon, head across the street to Craft and Draft and while away the time in their air conditioning, and enjoy a beer — or three. They of course also offer water bowls for your dog to get their sip on too.

After all of that walking, you might need to check out new kicks next door at Salty’s Surf Shop, where their open air shop is welcoming to dogs and humans alike. Window shop further up and down Devine, but head back down towards Five Points for dinnertime because Publico Kitchen and Tap has a fantastic back porch and a doggie menu as well. Relax into the evening with a margarita and get ready to head off to the West Columbia Riverwalk to watch the sun set while giving you and your pup’s feet a rest. If you need one last sweet treat for the night, hit the Pelican’s Snoballs nearby and get a one dollar pup ice to reward your best friend for the fun day out. And who says cities aren’t dog friendly?
