City-owned concrete skate park provides smooth ride for skateboarders
Hundreds of skateboarders came out for the opening of the first custom-designed concrete skate park owned and operated by the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation. The 15,000 square-foot park features a street plaza, stairs, metal plated rails, and "pool” bowls ranging in depth from 4-to-12 feet.
The new skate park, which is free to the public, is located in Owens Field Park, 1351 Jim Hamilton Boulevard. The facility is open to skateboards, in-line skates and bicycles.
The skate park is another way Parks and Recreation hopes to help keep youth engaged in recreational activity.
