As much as we love the great outdoors in Columbia, sometimes the weather calls for indoor activities. Whether is a particularly warm day or the rain just won’t quit, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.
1) Museums
The museums in Columbia SC are world class from the paintings in Columbia Museum of Art to the world’s largest kid at EdVenture. Be sure to put the South Carolina State Museum on your itinerary for an amazing show at the planetarium and the Heroes & Villains: The Art of Disney Costume exhibit on display until October 2025.
2) Play
When it’s too hot to play outside, but you still need to get that energy out, arcade games are an excellent option. Craft & Draft Irmo has a collection of pinball machines to enjoy while sipping a craft beer. Back in downtown Columbia, Transmission Arcade and Bang Back Pinball offer plenty of air-conditioned fun with classic arcade games and pinball machines. If you’re looking for something a bit more physical, opt for axe throwing at Craft Axe Throwing with locations in Lexington and The Vista. Or gather a group of competitive friends for a round of bowling at The Grand on Main Street.
3) Watch
Escape the heat at the Nickelodeon Theater. Enjoy both indie and blockbuster films at South Carolina’s only nonprofit arthouse cinema. Plus their Kids Summer Movies series is perfect for families or folks just looking to enjoy a bit of nostalgia.
4) Craft
Let your creativity shine and make something unique to take home. Copper Canyon Soap Co. offers workshops where you can make your own candle, bath bombe and more! Their scents range from earthy and masculine to fruity and sweet. Mad Platter also offers creative ceramic experiences. From painting platters to glass fusing, you’re sure to leave with a one-of-a-kind piece.
